General Ontological Language (GOL) A Formal Framework for Building and Representing Ontologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
General Ontological Language (GOL) is a formal framework for representing and building ontologies. The purpose of GOL is to provide a library of top-level ontologies which can be used as a framework for building more specific ontologies. This report is a living document of the GOL-project of the University of Leipzig. GOL is part of the work of the Research Group Ontologies in Medicine (Onto-Med) which is based on the collaborative work of the Institute of Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology (IMISE) and the Institute for Informatics (IfI). It represents work in progress toward a proposal for an integrated family of top-level ontologies and will be applied to several fields of medicine, in particular to the field of Clinical Trials. متن کاملWhat is an Upper Level Ontology ? Wolfgang Degen
In the present paper we make some contributions to the theory of upper level categories. Every domain-speciic ontology must use as a framework some upper-level ontology which describes the most general, domain-independent categories of reality. It turns out that the top-level ontology of the well-known standard modelling languages KIF (Knowledge Interchange Format), F-logic (Frame-Logic), and C...

متن کاملOntology of functions: a domain independent framework for modeling functions
In many domains entities are considered in terms of their functions, starting with the design of artifacts, through natural and social sciences and ending with folk theories and common sense knowledge. However, there is a lack of a domain-independent ontological framework for representing and modeling functions. Such a framework could be given by top-level ontologies, providing the specificatio...
